한반도 내 미국 고고도미사일방어체계(사드) 배치를 강하게 반대하는 중국이 한반도 인접 지역에서 초대형 신형 레이더를 오랫동안 운영한 것으로 전해졌다.

22일 중국 관영 관찰자망(觀察者網)에 따르면, 헤이룽장(黑龍江)성 솽야산(雙鴨山)의 한 항공우주관측제어소 부근에 있는 신형 지상 대형 전략경보 위상배열 레이더를 찍은 사진이 중국 인터넷에 등장했다. 이 레이더는 푸젠(福建)성 등에서도 누리꾼에 포착된 적 있다.

관찰자망은 2014년 5월 촬영된 사진 속 신형 대형 전략경보 레이더의 외형이 미국의 조기경보시스템 페이브 포(Pave Paw)와 유사하며 탐지거리가 5천500km에 달해 신형 AN FPS-132 페이브 포 레이더와 맞먹는다고 보도했다. 관찰자망은 탐지거리 3천㎞인 기존 7010형 레이더가 중국의 항공우주 발사와 미사일 경보 수요를 맞출 수 없게 되자 동북·서남·동남·서북 지역에 잇따라 신형 대형 전략경보 레이더가 설치됐다고 전했다.

레이더의 임무는 원거리 방공과 미사일 방어, 우주 목표물 감시 등으로 관측되고 있다.

이와 관련 해외 군사전문매체들은 중러 접경지역에서 불과 130㎞ 되는 지점에 있는 이 레이더가 중국의 미사일방어시스템을 구성하는 X밴드 레이더의 한 종류라는 분석을 제기했다. 중국 언론에 따르면 캐나다 군사평론지 칸와디펜스리뷰는 헤이룽장성에 있는 X밴드 레이더의 안테나 크기가 30×24ｍ로 미국의 페이브 포 레이더와 비슷한 크기라고 분석했다. 헤이룽장성 레이더는 방향 전환이 가능하며 러시아의 시베리아에 있는 미사일 기지에서 발사된 대륙간탄도미사일과 북극궤도로 발사되는 미국의 대륙간탄도미사일을 조기에 탐지할 수 있다. 미국의 알래스카 전체도 이 레이더의 탐지범위에 있다.

중국군이 신장(新疆)위구르자치구와 쿠얼러(庫爾勒)에 배치한 S밴드 위상배열 레이더는 15.7×17.8ｍ 크기로 헤이룽장성 레이더와 다른 종류다.

The size of S-band phased array radar deployed by the Chinese army is 15.7X17.8m and it's other types of Heilongjiang radar.

 

영국 군사전문지 IHS 제인스디펜스위클리(JDW)는 푸젠성에도 헤이룽장성의 X밴드 레이더와 유사한 레이더가 배치돼 있다고 전했다.

칸와디펜스리뷰는 중국이 대형 X밴드 위상배열 레이더와 S밴드, P밴드 원거리 조기경보 레이더 시스템 구축, 2∼4개의 탄도미사일 조기경보 위성 발사 등 3가지 측면에서 미사일방어 시스템을 구축하고 있다고 분석했다. 중국 전문가들은 중국의 신형 위상배열 레이더 설치가 2011년 미군기지 등이 있는 오키나와에 설치된 J/FPS-5 대형 위상배열 레이더에 대응하려는 것으로 관측했다.
